The Professional Master's Course in Sustainability and Environmental Technology (MPSTA) aims to prepare professionals to act in a multidisciplinary and intersectoral manner, with an emphasis on the concept of needs and environmental development. It aims at the qualification of human resources for the exercise of transforming professional practice, using environmentally appropriate procedures, willing to meet the social, organizational, professional and labor market demands in the environmental area. Additionally, it contributes to the implementation of practices and policies focused on sustainable regional and national development. The MPSTA is structured to enable masters to work in the public sector, in the private sector and in the third sector, in regional, national or international markets; in agro-industrial, rural and commercial companies; and in research institutes and universities.

The MPSTA was approved at the end of 2014 and the first students were accepted to start their studies in 2015. In 2016, the first students defended their dissertations, and since then, the master's degree has sought to improve its indicators, in an integrative view. It is a multidisciplinary program, rated 3 in the area of Environmental Sciences by the Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES) and offers training, at the Master's level, in three areas of research concentration: applied ecology, environmental technologies and environmental management and planning.

The MPSTA counts on the participation of professors from different IFMG campuses (Bambuí, Formiga, Governador Valadares, Itabirito, Ouro Preto, Santa Luzia and São João Evangelista), from Universidade Federal de Viçosa campus Florestal, from the Centro Federal de Educação Tecnológica de Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG) and Instituto Federal do Ceará. Disciplines are offered in person, with classes held every two weeks, on Fridays and Saturdays, and disciplines can be offered in a condensed manner and / or outside the campus of the program, with prior communication.

The course accepts 20 (twenty) students annually, works on a semester basis and each discipline credit corresponds to 15 class hours. To obtain the title of Master in Sustainability and Environmental Technology the student must:

a) complete a minimum of 24 (twenty-four) credits, in mandatory subjects and in elective subjects;

b) defend the final version of the dissertation and be approved by the evaluation committee.
